Who Can Volunteer?
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and walks of life. If you have a desire to make a positive impact, there is a place for you here.
Some roles may have specific requirements depending on the nature of the work. These can include:
- Being 18 years of age or older
- Living in Maple Ridge or Pitt Meadows
- Having a valid BC driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
- A commitment to reliability, adaptability, and strong interpersonal skills

Role Title:
Community Events Volunteer
Role Summary
Community Event Volunteers support Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Community Services at community events by helping create a welcoming, organized, and engaging booth presence. Volunteers assist with event set-up and take-down, greet attendees, share general information about the organization, and direct questions to staff when needed. This role helps increase community awareness, connection, and support for our programs and services.
Objective
To represent MRPMCS in a positive, inclusive and professional way at community events, support outreach efforts, and help ensure booths and displays are welcoming, informative, and well organized.
Duties and Responsibilities
– Assist with booth set-up, including tents, tables, signage, displays, and promotional materials
– Help ensure booth materials are organized, stocked, and presented neatly throughout the event
– Welcome and engage attendees in a friendly and approachable manner
– Share basic information about Community Services, including programs, volunteer opportunities, and donation options
– Encourage community members to stop by the booth and learn more about the organization
– Refer detailed or program-specific questions to MRPMCS staff when needed
– Support booth take-down at the end of the event
– Review event checklists and help ensure supplies are accounted for before and after events
Qualities and Skills
– Friendly, positive, and professional manner
– Comfortable speaking with members of the public
– Reliable and able to follow directions
– Organized and attentive to detail
– Able to work as part of a team
– Comfortable standing for periods of time and assisting with light event set-up and take-down
Support Provided
Volunteers will typically work alongside a Community Services staff member, who will provide guidance and support during the event and respond to more complex questions.
Additional Notes
– At least one person should remain at the booth at all times
– Volunteers are responsible for bringing personal items they may need, such as water or snacks
– Volunteers should wear Community Services identification, such as a lanyard or MRPMCS pin
– Personal safety should always come first in the event of an emergency; staff should be notified as soon as it is safe to do so

Support Volunteer – EngAge Meadows
Role Summary
Support Volunteers assist the EngAge Meadows program through the Seniors Dept. of Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Community Services by offering compassionate and attentive support to participants, ensuring a safe, engaging and welcoming environment. This position is ideal for a positive, energetic, and proactive individual who enjoys working with seniors, joining in on activities, and supporting their daily care with enthusiasm and empathy.
Objective
To support and enhance the well-being of seniors participating in the EngAge Meadows program by providing compassionate assistance, encouraging engagement in activities, and helping create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all participants.
Duties and Responsibilities
– Participate in group activities, which can include crafts, walks, and supporting clients.
– EngAge participants in conversation, acitivities, and social interaction.
– Monitor clients to ensure safety during the program, including accompanying participants on smaller group outings or to the washroom as needed.
– Serve meals and snacks, paying close attention to individual allergies/dietary needs.
– Support program space setup, cleanup, and maintain safe environment.
– Report any concerns and make suggestions to support the program to Program Activity Staff.
Qualifications & Skills:
– Experience in supporting seniors.
– Physically able to assist participants and perform program tasks.
– Able to commit to Monday and/or Tuesday participation (9:00 am – 1:00 pm) for a minimum of six months.
Additional Requirements:
– Clean Criminal Record.
– First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.
– Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Digital Literacy Guide
Role Summary
Digital Literacy Guide Volunteers assist the Digital Literacy program through the Seniors Dept. of Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Community Services by providing basic instructions on the use of assigned senior’s personal technology (i.e. cell phone, tablet, laptop, or personal computer) either in their homes or arranged at Community Services offices.
Objective
To support seniors in building confidence and independence with personal technology by providing patient, accessible, and individualized guidance through the Digital Literacy program in a supportive and respectful environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
– Provide basic instructions on the use of assigned senior’s personal technology.
– Volunteers will be supplied client contact information by Program Coordinator to arrange for in-person visit with client either in their homes or at a mutually agreed venue. All visits are to be arranged with prior knowledge and approval of the Program Coordinator.
– Possess good listening skills.
– Establish a rapport with the client assigned, and bring to the attention of the Program Coordinator any instances of incompatibility in order that changes can be made.

– Clean Criminal Record.
– First Aid/CPR certification is an asset.
– Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

Volunteer Handy Person – Better at Home
Role Summary
Handy Person Volunteer supports the Seniors Dept. of Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Community Services by offering affordable home maintenance to seniors in our community.
Objective
Under the direction of the Seniors Outreach and Home Support Coordinator, provide afforadable home maintenance to seniors, enabling them to live independently in their own homes as long as possible.
Duties and Responsibilities
– Consulting with client and completing maintenance work orders.
– Purchase supplies as necessary.
– Refer to outside professionals as required.
– Able to respond quickly to job requests.
– Issue receipts if needed.
– Communicate any concerns/report unusual occurrences or incidents involving clients immediately to Program Coordinator.
Additional Requirements
– Clean Criminal Record.
– Must have a valid unrestricted Class 5 BC Drivers License.
– Must have an available, reliable vehicle and insure the vehicle in accordance to Community Services Policy.
– Participate in Annual Performance Review.

Volunteer Shopper – Better at Home
Role Summary
Volunteer Shopper supports the Seniors Dept. of Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Community Services by assisting seniors with grocery shopping. Volunteers assist by either driving a senior to the store and assisting with shopping, picking up a list from the senior and shopping themselves, or delivering the groceries/arranging for the store to deliver.
Objective
To provide the best possible shopping services for seniors who are unable to shop for themselves.
Duties and Responsibilities
– Volunteers will assist the client as necessary to complete their desired shopping tasks.
– When picking up a list to shop for a senior, leave a receipt for the money given. On return, have the client sign that they have received the correct change.
– Communicate any concerns/report unusual occurrences or incidents involving clients immediately to Program Coordinator.
– Avoid giving advice on what to buy.

– Must have a valid unrestricted Class 5 BC Drivers License.
– Must have an available, reliable vehicle and insure the vehicle in accordance to Community Services Policy.
– Participate in Annual Performance Review.

Volunteer Driver – Better at Home
Role Summary
Volunteer Drivers support the Seniors Dept. of Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Community Services by assisting seniors with transportation needs.
Objective
To provide the best possible transportation services for seniors who are unable to transport for themselves.
Duties and Responsibilities
– Providing medical and non-medical transportation needs to senior clients.
– Establishes good rapport with client assigned, and brings to the attention of the supervisor any instances of incompatibility so that changes can be made.
– Responsible for informing the supervisor in a timely manner of inability to carry out an assignment in order that alternative arrangements can be made
– Keep track of hours volunteered and miles driven to submit to the supervisor monthly. – Attends regularly scheduled meetings for the purpose of client review and information sharing – Communicate any concerns/report unusual occurrences or incidents involving clients immediately to Program Coordinator.

– Must have a valid unrestricted Class 5 BC Drivers License.
– Must have an available, reliable vehicle and insure the vehicle in accordance to Community Services Policy.

Volunteer Visitor – Better at Home
Role Summary
Volunteer Visitors support the Seniors Dept. of Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Community Services by providing friendly visits to seniors in their homes who are housebound and shut in.
Objective
To provide friendly wellness visits to housebound seniors.
Duties and Responsibilities
– Visit for at least one hour with an assigned senior.
– Possess good listening skills.
– Establish a rapport with the client assigned and bring to the attention of supervisor if any instances of incompatibility in order to make changes.
– Keep track of hours volunteered and miles driven to submit to the coordinator monthly for statistical information. – Communicate any concerns/report unusual occurrences or incidents involving clients immediately to Program Coordinator.

– Clean Criminal Record.
– Must have a valid unrestricted Class 5 BC Drivers License.
– Must have an available, reliable vehicle and insure the vehicle in accordance to Community Services Policy.
– Participate in Annual Performance Review.
