How Do These Programs Work?
Most services require a referral from a social worker from the Ministry
of Child and Family Development; however, the program is able to accept
some self-referred families when the program has some spaces. Service is
provided within the context of Integrated Case Management, an approach to
service that attempts to involve the family's own network (professional
and social) in the development of a service plan. The service
attempts to work with the family's strengths and service plans are built
around what the family believes will work for them.
All services are provided to families and children using community and
home based locations. These programs assist families to access other
community resources and networks to maximize their functioning. Strong,
integrated case management with both the referring social worker and other
significant members of the client's personal and professional family is a
key component.
The service is intended to offer flexible responses ranging from crisis
to support services, and allocation of identified resources, in proportion
to the identified need. Identified families receiving services from
Children, Youth and Family Outreach Services may also access clinical counseling
services.
Cost and Hours of Service
There is no cost to families accessing services. The hours of
service are flexible and adapted to meet the needs of the family.
Funding
The B.C. government has funded Outreach Services to Children, Youth &
Families since 1971. The Ministry of Children and Family Development
currently provides the funding for services available within this program.
