Clinical Counselling Services
Providing community based supportive
intervention services which instill hope and build upon the strengths of
families to enable children, youth and parents to realize their full
potential as individuals and families.
What Services are Available?
The program currently provides Brief Counselling to children, youth and
families from the following programs:
 | Outreach Services to Children, Youth and Families |
 | Youth and Family Conflict Intervention Program |
What is Brief Counselling?
Brief Counselling is a program within the Clinical Counselling Services
of Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Community Services. It provides an
opportunity for families to receive brief family counselling services to
better aid in their success.
Clients receiving services from Outreach Services to Children, Youth and
Families are eligible. They are clients that have been a part of the
Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) Integrated Case
Management (ICM) process. If space allows, other referrals may be
accepted for families undergoing Youth and Family Conflict Intervention
services or other families identified by MCFD.
Brief service referrals can be made for a variety of issues and concerns
for individuals, couples and families. However, they must fit within
the program guidelines and be supported by the ICM process.
Eligibility for Brief Services
Brief Counselling is an option that could be used in the following
circumstances:
 | When resolving a specific problem with a youth, couple, individual or
family and working towards practical solutions |
 | When the therapeutic goals do not require in-depth, multigenerational
family history, but rather focus on present interactions |
 | When the family as a whole can benefit from teaching and communication
to better understand some aspect of their identified problem |
 | When support and education are required for the purposes of instilling
practical skills for living |
Brief Counselling Offers An Opportunity To:
 | Focus on the expectation of change within the family |
 | Test new patterns of behaviour and solutions to problems |
 | Learn how a family system works and how each members choices to change
positively can benefit the whole family system |
 | Elicit the strengths of every family member |
Brief Counselling Would Not Be Appropriate If:
 | Other services like Alcohol & Drug Services or Sexual Abuse
Counselling have been identified as appropriate but not yet utilized |
 | Severe and persistent mental health concerns or if substance misuse is
ongoing |
 | Counselling services required appear to need significantly more time
than the 6 - 8 sessions that Brief Counselling can offer. |
How Do These Programs Work?
Brief Counselling is provided to families and children through Maple
Ridge/Pitt Meadows Community Services.
Most families that receive counselling are referred through the MCFD
Integrated Case Management process.
Cost and Hours of Service
There is no cost to families accessing services. The hours of
service are flexible and adapted to meet the needs of the family.
Funding
